Taking national legislation into account (STSG, StVO, ETG, NISG, etc.), this RVS is to be applied in the planning of new road tunnels. In the case of renovations, it applies mutatis mutandis, provided that this does not contradict the principle of proportionality. Priority must be given to consistency with regard to tunnel users.

For galleries, this RVS is to be applied as specified in point 7.
It was drawn up in cooperation with the Austrian Federal Fire Brigade Association (ÖBFV) and is therefore valid throughout the country with regard to fire protection facilities. Deviations must be coordinated with the relevant provincial fire brigade association on the basis of a risk assessment.
