Taximeters

The Swedish Board for Accreditation and Conformity Assessment's Regulations on Taximeters

Regulations on taximeters already exist today, (STAFS 2016:8). These regulations implement the Measuring Instruments Directive (2014/32/EU). The previous version of the Directive was implemented by STAFS 2006:11, which was later replaced by STAFS 2016:8.

The draft regulation includes some minor changes to the existing provisions. However, the current regulation provides for moisture and temperature conditions and for an accessory device to be connected to the interface of the taximeter. These provisions were introduced in 2006, but have not previously been notified as technical rules. It should be pointed out that these rules fall within the framework within which the Member States must comply under the Directive. In view of the fact that the provisions are within the scope of the Directive, the examination of their consequences has been deemed to have been taken into account in the drafting of the Directive. Since, as far as is known, there is no clear practice as to whether a notification should be made in a case such as the present, the Board has been recommended to notify them.
Sections 4 and 7 (provisions on moisture and temperature conditions and on the connection of an accessory device to the interface of the taximeter) constitute special sectorial rules. The requirements may be laid down in accordance with Article 7(3) and point 4 of Annex IX to the Measuring Instruments Directive and are within the limits laid down by the Directive for the Member States.
