Indirect requirements for the design of different types of components used in the construction of an electrical installation — such as earthing systems for high-voltage installations or overhead contact lines for the operation of rail, tram, metro or electric road.

The Swedish National Electrical Safety Board’s regulations and general advice on the execution of electrical installations

Today, requirements for the construction of high-power facilities are regulated in the Swedish Electrical Safety Board’s regulations and general advice (2008:1) on the execution of electrical installations. These rules have been amended several times (2010, 2015 and 2021) and there is a need to update the language, references to other legislation and parts of the regulatory framework in order to adapt the rules to technological developments in society. The rules are therefore not new, but some amendments are proposed.

The rules lay down requirements on how electrical installations are to be built and which safety requirements the plants must meet. The rules apply throughout the lifetime of the electricity installation and contain both certain fundamental safety requirements applicable to all electrical installations (Chapters 2-3) and detailed requirements for certain types of electrical installations (Chapters 4-7). For the fundamental safety requirements, presumption applies as standard, i.e. if you follow the Swedish standard (which follows harmonised EU and international standards) you meet the requirements of Chapters 2-3. You can choose another way, but then you need to document your considerations.
The regulation has already been notified, 2015/223/S and 2020/701/S – Proposal for regulations amending the Swedish National Electrical Safety Board’s regulations (2008:1) on the execution of electrical installations.
