Minimum safety measures for electrical installations implemented in Belgium in accordance with the new General Regulation on Electrical Installations [Règlement général sur les installations électriques - RGIE] introduced by the Royal Decree of 8 September 2019 adopting Book 1 on low voltage and extra low voltage electrical installations, Book 2 on high voltage electrical installations and Book 3 on electricity transmission and distribution installations.

Draft Royal Decree amending certain parts of Books 1, 2 and 3, introduced by the Royal Decree of 8 September 2019 adopting Book 1 on low voltage and extra low voltage electrical installations, Book 2 on high voltage electrical installations and Book 3 on electricity transmission and distribution installations

The draft provides for the following, amongst other aspects:

- the completion, rewriting and revision of the minimum security measures applicable to the domestic installations referred to in Book 1 of the new RGIE (concept of a domestic installation, graphic symbols, mimic diagram/floor plan, protective measures against indirect contact, connection to the public distribution network, etc.). These changes have a minor impact on some requirements shared with non-domestic installations;
- classification of common areas of a residential estate, as defined in Book 1 of the new RGIE, as non-domestic installations, assuming compliance with certain safety measures applicable to domestic installations;
- the completion, rewriting and revision of the applicable exemptions in Book 1 of the new RGIE for existing domestic installations and existing installations in common areas of a residential estate that were completed before the entry into force of the draft;
- the review of certain terminology in Books 1, 2 and 3 of the new RGIE.
