The proposed Amending Regulations further govern the operation, maintenance and frequency of periodic inspection of elevators. The proposed Regulations, inter alia, improve the definition of the owner of an elevator, the criteria for the approval of persons exercising the profession of Authorised Elevator Controller and Elevator Maintener, upgrade the technical requirements for elevators and introduce fees to examine any request for application exemption of any technical provision of the Regulations to an installed elevator.

The Health and Safety at Work (Operation, Maintenance and Inspection of Elevators) (Amending) Regulations of 202x

The placing on the market of safe elevators is regulated by European legislation to which Cyprus has been fully harmonised, and requires the CE marking.

The long-term safe operation, maintenance and control of elevators has been regulated by national Regulations since 2012.
The monitoring of the implementation of the original Regulations has shown that some provisions need to be improved and modernised and the proposed Amending Regulations seek this. In particular, they modernise the existing legislative framework in terms of definitions e.g. elevator owner and significant modifications and scope of the Regulations. They also upgrade the technical specifications of the installed elevators, the criteria for approval of professionals in the sector, verbal corrections, etc.
