Draft Regulation on animal health requirements and biosecurity measures for establishments for fish and other aquaculture animals.

The adoption of the draft aims to streamline the development of the fish farming sector, increase the productivity of farms and ensure the health status of fish and other aquaculture animals being kept.

The proposed draft Regulation aims to determine the general and specific animal health and animal hygiene requirements, including biosecurity measures in establishments keeping fish and other aquaculture animals, and the obligations of the owners or users of these establishments.
In the draft Regulation, the establishments for fish and other aquaculture animals are classified according to the type of production facilities used, the way water is used, the type of water used in the establishment, the number of fish species kept, how isolated the establishment is from the environment, the techniques applied in the keeping and the production cycle. The biosecurity measures and the installations that the establishments must be equipped with have been determined in order to ensure the health-related well-being of the fish or other aquaculture animals kept and to minimise the risk of occurrence and spread of diseases.
The following have also been determined: the specific animal health and animal hygiene requirements for the establishments using production systems separated from the environment and with controlled water parameters, for establishments using net cages, establishments using systems for breeding fish and other aquaculture animals and extracting roe (fish hatchery), the requirements for recreational and paid fishing establishments, establishments carrying out scientific research or other non-profit activities, and establishments breeding and keeping fish and other aquaculture animals for ornamental and other purposes unrelated to human food.
Specific conditions have been determined regarding the minimum requirements for the living environment in establishments for fish and other aquaculture animals, in establishments keeping, breeding and storing cold-water and warm-water fish species and sturgeon species.
