Infectious clinical waste

Draft Order supplementing the Order of 23 March 2020 prescribing the organisational and operational health system measures necessary to deal with the COVID-19 epidemic in the context of the state of health emergency

The draft text provides that,

By way of derogation from the provisions of the Order of 7 September 1999 on storage procedures for infectious clinical and similar waste and anatomical parts, the storage procedures for infectious clinical and similar waste and anatomical parts is subject to the following provisions:

‘1. The period between the actual production of the waste and its removal from the production site is not to exceed:

‘a) 5 days where the quantity of this waste produced on the same site is greater than 100 kilograms per week;

‘b) 10 days where the quantity of infectious clinical waste produced on the same site is less than or equal to 100 kilograms per week and greater than 15 kilograms per month;

‘c) 1 month, regardless of the quantity produced, for waste from personal protective equipment used by medical staff;

‘2. The period between the removal of waste and its incineration or pre-treatment by disinfection is not to exceed 20 days where the quantity of waste grouped in the same place is greater than or equal to 15 kilograms per month. If it is impossible to incinerate or pre-treat within this time limit, the waste may be stored for a period not exceeding 3 months’
