Regulations for carrying out load testing on concrete structures.

German Committee for Structural Concrete guideline ‘Load testing of concrete structures’, February 2020 draft

The guideline applies to in situ load testing on structures or structural components of buildings and civil engineering made of concrete, reinforced concrete and prestressed concrete. This guideline may be applied analogously to other solid structures.

Load testing can supplement the verification of stability of existing components under specific circumstances, if this cannot be provided despite thorough structural inspections and calculations. Load testing may only be carried out if precautions are taken against the effects resulting from unexpected failure during testing. Experimental testing of a component is not permitted if it poses a risk to human health and life as well as an unacceptably high risk to property.

The guideline specifies principles and minimum requirements for experimental structural

investigations and describes the basics of the preparation, implementation and evaluation of these tests.
