The Regulations contain national measures (as permitted under Article 44.1 and 2 of Regulation

(EU) No 1169/2011) that require foods sold prepacked for direct sale to display the name of the food and full ingredients listing. Allergen ingredients have to be emphasised in the ingredients list on the packaging. The Regulations enter in to force on 1st October 2021. In accordance with Article 44.3 we are communicating the text of our new Regulations without delay.

The Food Information (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2019

The Food Information (Amendment) (England) Regulations 2019 make specific provision in relation to allergen information for food sold prepacked for direct sale.

As provided for by Article 44.2 of Regulation (EU) No 1169/2011, the Regulations introduce national measures concerning the means by which allergen information for foods sold pre-packed for direct sale must be provided.

The Regulations insert new regulations 5A and 6A into the Food Information (England) Regulations 2014.

These regulations require foods sold prepacked for direct sale to include the name of the food and ingredient list, with allergen information highlighted within the ingredients list. There is an exemption for foods offered for sale by means of distance communication.
