Honey

Royal Decree amending Royal Decree 1049/2003 of 1 August 2003 approving the regulation on honey quality

This royal decree is aimed at amending Royal Decree 1049/2003 of 1 August 2003 approving the regulation on honey quality by adding the requirement that product labels must give detailed information on the countries of origin of the various honeys making up the final honey product, as well as their percentage proportions.

Likewise, it shall become compulsory for the label to state ‘miel tratada con calor’ [pasteurised honey] when any of the product’s components have undergone heat treatment.

Operators’ self-monitoring systems must contain the requisite evidence for demonstrating to the competent authorities the origin of the various honeys in the mixture and whether or not any of them have undergone heat treatment.
