The rules concern stricter requirements in the four Danish environmental zones.

The rules are being made stricter for lorries and buses, and
environmental zone requirements are introduced for commercial vehicles.

Act amending the Environmental Protection Act

The purpose of the bill is to establish new updated requirements for diesel-powered heavy vehicles and commercial vehicles driving in the environmental zones in Denmark. According to the present environmental zone requirements, diesel-powered lorries and buses must, as a minimum, comply with Euro 4. The new bill proposes a regulatory tightening for heavy vehicles from 1 July 2020 as a requirement for an initial registration date of 1 October 2009 or later, and from 1 July 2022 as a requirement for an initial registration date of 1 January 2014 or later, unless the vehicle has an effective particulate filter installed.

In the case of diesel-powered commercial vehicles, 1 July 2020 is proposed as a requirement for an initial registration date of 1 January 2007 or later, 1 July 2022 as a requirement for an initial registration date of 1 January 2012 or later and 1 July 2025 as a requirement for an initial registration date of 1 September 2016 or later.

Vehicles that do not comply with the emission requirements may, in line with the present law, access the zone if a particulate filter is installed. This can be either a factory-fitted or retrofitted particulate filter.
