Samples of products of animal origin or for animal use, with no commercial purpose.

Regula internación de muestras o productos sin fines comerciales de origen o uso animal mediante permiso de importación (Text regulating the entry into Chile of samples or products of animal origin or for animal use that have no commercial purpose, and establishing an import permit requirement for such items)

1.  Samples or products with no commercial value or purpose, hereinafter "products", shall be understood to mean all those entering Chile for the following purposes:

a)  promotional, advertising and tasting purposes, or similar, with a view to the demonstration of their characteristics or properties;

b)  research, testing, laboratory analysis, field tests, demonstrations, and similar activities;

c)  veterinary drugs accompanying an application for the registration of pharmaceutical products exclusively for veterinary use or for use when the product is not registered in the country;

d)  other purposes determined by the Service.

2.  The product concerned must be presented in a way that shows it will not be used for commercial purposes, and the quantity, weight, volume, frequency of importation, and characteristics thereof must be consistent with this claim, which will be assessed by the Service on a case-by-case basis.

3.  The entry of products will be authorized via the issuing of an import permit, following an assessment of the associated risks.

4.  Applications for import permits must be submitted using the official form specified by the Service and include all the information required for the type of product concerned. The form is available on the SAG website.

5.  Once all the information required for the import permit has been submitted together with proof of payment, the Service must decide on the application within 10 calendar days.

6.  The import permit will be valid for 60 calendar days from the date of issue and may be used only once, unless otherwise indicated. Where permits are requested on a regular basis, it is possible to apply for an extended permit, which will cover the recurrent entry of products throughout the calendar year.

7.  The products concerned must be destroyed after use, whether via consumption (tasting), scientific testing, incineration or other means. SAG may request proof that any product remnants have been destroyed.

8.  Import permits are not required for the following products:

a)  purified nucleic acid;

b)  purified antibodies;

c)  cytochromes;

d)  semen extenders;

e)  enzymes;

f)  lactic ferments or cultures;

g)  purified gelatin;

h)  cell lines;

i)  culture media;

j)  plates coated with inactivated antigens;

k)  beta-propiolactone;

l)  tissues fixed in formalin;

m)  fixed histological sections;

n)  saline solutions;

o)  animal serum and plasma for research purposes;

p)  trypsin in its various forms;

q)  products required by SAG for laboratory testing purposes or other official activities; and

r)  other products indicated and listed on the SAG website.
