The sixteenth revision of the Medicinal Products Act [Arzneimittelgesetz] contains authorisations allowing the regulatory body to introduce additional legislation regulating the use of antibiotics in animals. In light of this, the Ordinance on veterinary pharmacies will be supplemented with new regulations concerning a reclassification ban for certain medicinal products, the introduction of an obligation to generate antibiograms, and methods for sampling, isolating bacteria and generating antibiograms. Introducing these new requirements means that the obligations to provide proof must also be supplemented. Furthermore, the regulations in the Ordinance on veterinary pharmacies concerning scientific rules, the supply of medicinal products to animal keepers and the prescription of medicinal products are supplemented and updated. In addition, editorial adjustments are made in line with changes to the European legal framework to set maximum residue limits of pharmacologically active substances in foodstuffs of animal origin.
