Rice of the species Oryza sativa L. and broken rice.

This Decree-Law lays down the characteristics to be complied with by rice of the species Oryza sativa L. and broken rice intended for the final consumer, sets out the respective commercial types and grades and establishes the technical standards on marketing, packaging and labelling.

Decree-Law No 62/2000 of 19 April 2000 laid down the characteristics to be complied with by rice and broken rice intended for the final consumer, set out the respective test methods and commercial grades and established the technical standards on the marketing, packaging and labelling thereof.

Over the last few years, due the dynamics of rice consumption, there has been a surge in new forms of presentation and new rice varieties, which make it necessary to amend the existing legal framework.
