In response to concerns raised by consumers about the safety of bedguards due to an incident in 2015 where a 5-month-old baby suffocated and died because of being trapped between the bedguards and mattress, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection proposes to regulate the safety and quality of children's bedguards to prevent similar incidents from happening again. The proposed measure will apply to all bedguards for domestic use with the maximum height of 600 mm, minimum length of 1,400 mm, and intended to be used by children aged between 18 months and 5 years old.
