Packages, overpacks, tanks and freight containers used for the transport and in-transit storage of radioactive material within national territory

Proyecto de Norma Oficial Mexicana PROY-NOM-014-NUCL-2017, Categorías de bultos, sobreenvases y contenedores de carga que contengan material radiactivo: marcado, etiquetado y rotulado (Draft Mexican Official Standard PROY-NOM-014-NUCL-2017, Categories of packages, overpacks and freight containers for radioactive material: marking and labelling) (12 pages, in Spanish)

The easiest and safest way of ensuring that the risk of exposure to ionizing radiation posed by radioactive material during transport can be identified at a glance is to affix labels to packages containing such material with symbols and written information indicating their radioactive contents. In line with statutory requirements, these identification marks, which are invaluable to emergency response specialists dealing with transport accidents involving radioactive material, must withstand exposure to weather and abrasion and remain legible irrespective of any incidents that occur during transport. The notified draft Mexican Official Standard applies to all packages, overpacks, tanks and freight containers used for the transport and in-transit storage of radioactive material within national territory.
