Steel structures

NCh 427/1: 2016 Construcción - Estructuras de acero - Parte 1: Requisitos para el cálculo de estructuras de acero para edificios (Chilean Standard No. 427/1:2016, Construction - Steel structures - Part 1: Requirements for calculating steel structures for buildings) (299 pages, in Spanish)

This Standard covers the design of steel structural systems in structures made of reinforced concrete and structural steel, which contain the steel components defined in Chilean Standard No. 428 (see Annex 4) . The Standard contains a section on symbols, a glossary, Chapters A to N, and Annexes 1 to 8. Comments and notes are also included. It establishes criteria governing the design and construction of structural steel buildings and other structures (where other structures are defined as those designed and constructed in a way similar to buildings, meaning their elements resistant to vertical and lateral loads are similar to resistant systems in buildings) . Where this Standard refers to the applicable building code, and such a code does not exist, the loads, load combination, structural limitations, and general design requirements will be those specified in ASCE/SEI 7. For all purposes, it should be understood that the applicable building code corresponds to the General Ordinance on Urban Planning and Construction and existing Chilean Standards. Where the requirements are not covered by this Standard, the design may be based on tests or analysis, where approved by the competent authority. Alternative analysis and design methods may be used, provided that they are accepted by the competent authority. Please note that for the design of cold-formed structural members less than 25mm thick (with the exception of HSS tubular sections), it is recommended that the provisions of Chilean Standard No. 427/2 be applied (Standard under review, see Annex 4) .
