The Trailer Registration Regulations, expected to be published in draft in September 2018, will establish a registration scheme in the United Kingdom for trailers drawn on roads by motor vehicles.

The plate used to display the registration mark of the trailer (more commonly known as the registration number) must be in compliance with the specification that will be set out in these Regulations.

The Trailer Registration Regulations will require that a registration mark is displayed on each registered trailer. The Regulations will specify:

the size, shape and spacing of the characters used to display the registration mark;

the physical characteristics of the plate that the registration mark is displayed upon; and

how the plate should be fixed to the trailer.
