ELOT TS 1501-10-06-04-01 Lopping and pruning of trees

Adoption of seventy (70) Greek Technical Specifications (GTS), of mandatory application to all Public Works and Design.

ELOT TS 1501-10-06-04-01 Lopping and pruning of trees

The aim of this Specification is to present good practices and methods concerning the lopping and pruning of several kinds of trees to ensure their health and growth, so that they look appealing, serve the needs for which they were planted and to guarantee that they are not a hazard for pedestrians and especially visually impaired persons.

It is underlined that the practices and requirements mentioned below are not applicable for all categories and kinds of trees, as they depend on weather conditions, the season, the growth stage of the plants and their health. The appropriate interventions for each case are defined by the project's landscaping study that may also include special requirements.

Although each plant requires a different kind of lopping and pruning, this Specification aims to group together and present the general rules that are the result of scientific research and experience.

The proper execution of lopping and pruning has many advantages, such as less danger that the tree or its branches may break, a better health and appearance and an increased blooming for the tree, as well as unhindered movement by pedestrians and unhindered visibility. The improper execution of lopping and pruning is detrimental to the tree's health, stability and appearance.
