Public Works and Design, Sealing the deck of concrete bridges

Adoption of seventy (70) Greek Technical Specifications (GTS), of mandatory application to all Public Works and Design.

ELOT TS 1501-05-01-07-01 Sealing the deck of concrete bridges

Adoption of seventy (70) Greek Technical Specifications (GTS), of mandatory application to all Public Works and Design.

ELOT TS 1501-05-01-07-01 Sealing the deck of concrete bridges

This Specification relates to securing a seal on the deck of concrete bridges using sealing systems which are in line with the ELOT EN 14695 standard.

The term ‘Bridges’ in the specification also includes overpasses and underpasses, drains and in general all technical works for road or rail networks where the deck is made of concrete and needs to be sealed.

Protecting the deck of bridges against the ingress of water and water soluble pollutants is provided through a combination of a suitable drainage and sealing system for the upper surface of the deck. The sealing system must be durable against deck stresses (such as traffic loads), provide secure adhesion to both the deck and to the coating of asphalt concretes / asphalt mixes which form or are covered by the circulation layers, and ensure durability over the specified life time.

The specification applies in conjunction with the ELOT TS 1501-05-01-08-00 “Bridge drainage systems” and the ELOT TS 1501-05-01-06-00 “Bridge expansion - contraction joints”, for both new and existing bridges.

The specification also relates to (a) the suitability of and need to prepare the surface of the deck in order to apply the sealing system and (b) ensuring adequate adhesion between the top of the sealing system and the asphalt concretes / asphalt mixes.
