Public Works and Design, Concrete curing

Adoption of seventy (70) Greek Technical Specifications (GTS), of mandatory application to all Public Works and Design

ELOT TS 1501-01-01-03-00 Concrete curing

The present Ministerial Decision concerns the adoption of seventy (70) Greek Technical Specifications (GTS), of mandatory application to all Public Works and Design.

ELOT TS 1501-01-01-03-00 Concrete curing

The present Specification describes the protection measures to be taken after the application of the concrete in order to ensure its effective maintenance, to avoid damage and to create the necessary conditions that ensure the expected final properties of the concrete, according to its composition.

This specification clarifies, interprets and uses as its basis the provisions of the Concrete Technology Regulation.

This Specification does not apply to cases of steam cured concrete or other methodologies used for speeding up or slowing down the hardening of the concrete, nor does it refer to the additional measures that must be taken for the composition and production of concrete when laid in periods of high or low ambient temperature.

Comment

It should be noted that the cost of the curing method imposed by this Specification is higher (work and materials) than the cost of the curing practice currently applied in most construction works. However, it should also be noted that proper curing protects the construction from the significantly higher costs it will cause in the future due to the effects of reduced concrete durability and reduced reinforcement protection.
