(Draft) Decree by the Flemish government laying down the specific fire safety standards with which tourist accommodation must comply

This draft decree implements the Decree of the Flemish Parliament of 5 February 2016 on tourist accommodation.

The draft updates the specific fire safety standards with which tourist accommodation operations (hotels, campgrounds, B&Bs, etc.) in the Flemish Region must comply. This draft decree replaces the current Decree by the Flemish Government laying down the specific fire safety standards with which tourist accommodation must comply (Notification No 2009/243/B – B20).

The specific fire safety standards have been updated and simplified based on the (new) Decree of the Flemish Parliament of 5 February 2016 on tourist accommodation.

These specific fire safety standards take into account the type of accommodation (room-based tourist accommodation versus open-air tourist accommodation) and the capacity of the operation (number of sleeping places).

These fire safety standards do not affect the basic federal (Belgian) fire safety standards (Belgian Royal Decree of 7 July 1994 laying down the basic standards for the prevention of fire and explosion with which new buildings must comply, as amended). These fire safety standards are specific additional standards that apply in the specific case of buildings or land operated as tourist accommodation.
