Lighters

Proposal for amendment to the legal inspection requirements of lighters (2 page(s), in English; 1 page(s), in Chinese)

In order to enhance protection of consumers from hazards arising from unsafe lighters, the Bureau of Standards, Metrology and Inspection (BSMI) proposes to extend the scope of lighters that are currently subject to mandatory inspection. Lighters that have a customs value or ex-factory price less than US$2.5 (the current scope being less than FOB US$0.7) will be required to comply with safety requirements specified in CNS 10666. The conformity assessment procedure will remain unchanged, i.e. Type-approve Batch Inspection (TABI).
