Protective footwear and anti-electrostatic footwear are subject tomandatory inspection under the Commodity Inspection Act. The current inspection standardsCNS 6863 on protective footwear and CNS 8878 on anti-electrostatic footwear were replacedby CNS 20345 on personal protective equipment-safety footwear (published on13 January 2015) and CNS 20346 on personal protective equipment-protective footwear(published on 14 January 2016) to cope with needs evolved over the past 5 years. The BSMIintends to adopt CNS 20345 and CNS 20346 standards as the inspection standards.The BSMI also revises the description of goods of safety footwear, protective footwear, andprotective boots for occupational health in the draft measure. The conformity assessmentprocedure for Safety footwear and Protective footwear products will be under the Type-Approved Batch Inspection (TABI) Scheme or Registration of Product Certification (RPC)Scheme, but protective boots for occupational health products remain unchanged.
