Cacao cuttings for propagation (Theobroma cacao L.)

Resolución 003-2017 ARP-IPSA Establecimiento de Requisitos Fitosanitarios para la Importación de Varetas de Cacao para Siembra (Resolution 003-2017 ARP-IPSA: Phytosanitary requirements for the importation into Nicaragua of cacao cuttings for propagation from Ecuador)

The notified Resolution establishes the phytosanitary requirements for the importation into Nicaragua of cacao cuttings for propagation (Theobroma cacao) from Ecuador.

In order to enter the country, shipments must be covered by a phytosanitary certificate (original copy) issued by the country of origin, which contains an additional declaration stating the following: the propagation material comes from a farm, nursery or certified mass propagation centre registered and inspected by the National Plant Protection Organization (NPPO) of the country of origin, and is free of Moniliophthora perniciosa.

The material (cuttings) must come from a farm, nursery or a certified mass propagation centre.

The propagation material (cuttings) must be treated with an azoxystrobin-based fungicide (800 mg of the product/litre of water) .

Shipments must be free of soil.

Upon their entry into the country, the cuttings must undergo inspection, sampling and laboratory analysis to determine the presence or absence of the pathogen.

Shipments will be subject to phytosanitary control by plant quarantine inspectors from the Institute for Agricultural and Livestock Protection.
