The use of external power supplies (EPSs) that draw electricity from the mains has seen a sharp increase in recent years and a standard is therefore required to regulate both active-mode and no-load-mode electric power consumption, with a view to reducing such consumption and thereby helping to preserve non-renewable natural resources.
