Law No. 1/2017 regarding the Egyptian National Food Safety Authority.

•  The Egyptian Food Safety Authority shall solely undertake the functions of control and handling of food to prevent health hazards arising from human consumption of food, through formulating necessary regulations and taking any measures to protect human health;

-  The Egyptian Food Safety Authority shall be responsible for but not limited to:

•  Setting mandatory food safety criteria in accordance with the international standards;

•  Inspection, control, licensing, handling of food;

•  Control of imported and local food to prevent any fraudulent activity;

•  Setting conditions and rules regarding the granting of certificates of validity necessary for the export of locally-produced food and overseeing the certification process;

•  Setting the necessary measures and procedures for emergencies that threaten imported or locally produced food, through rapid alert and recall systems;

•  Setting the necessary procedures for risk assessment, analysis, management, communication;

•  Developing mandatory systems that ensure food safety;

•  Developing a system for food traceability;

•  Setting the necessary plans for identifying existing unlicensed food production units;

•  Raising community awareness;

•  Cooperating and coordinating with national and international organizations concerned with the safety of food and human health;

•  Functions of the Egyptian Food Safety Authority shall not include the stages of primary production;

•  The current relevant food safety decrees and regulations shall continue to be enforced pending the issuance of the executive regulations and decrees necessary for the enforcement of the Egyptian National Food Safety Authority.
