The proposal repeals and replaces the current Playpens Regulations of the Canada Consumer Product Safety Act (CCPSA) . The proposed Playpens Regulations include a number of major modifications to address identified hazards associated with playpens. The modifications include additional performance requirements and test methods to address unintentional folding or collapse of the playpen’s top rails, and the introduction of performance requirements and test methods for playpen accessories, including accessories intended for unsupervised infant sleep.

The proposal aligns the majority of the Canadian requirements with U.S. requirements, and aligns some requirements with the current Cribs, Cradles and Bassinets Regulations of the CCPSA (G/TBT/N/CAN/98/Rev.2/Add.1) .
