Health Canada's Proposal to Enable the Use of a New Food Additive, Advantame, as a Sweetener in Certain Unstandardized Foods Including Certain Beverages - Reference Number: NOP/AVP-0022.

Health Canada's Food Directorate completed a detailed safetyassessment of a food additive submission seeking approval for the use of advantame asa sweetener in certain unstandardized foods, including unstandardized beverages.As no safety concerns were raised through this assessment, it is the intention of HealthCanada to enable the food additive use described in the information document. Thepurpose of this communication is to publically announce the Department's intention inthis regard and to provide the appropriate contact information for any inquiries or forthose wishing to submit any new scientific information relevant to the safety of this foodadditive.
