2. Beverages containing distilled alcohol

Draft Act amending the Burgenland Youth Protection Act 2002

1. Raising the minimum age for the consumption of tobacco and related products (E-cigarettes, shishas, etc.) from 16 to 18 years of age;

2. Raising the minimum age from 16 to 18 for the consumption of beverages which contain distilled alcohol and have an alcohol content exceeding 0.5 % by volume. The consumption of 'light' (i.e. undistilled) alcoholic beverages (e.g. beer, wine, sparkling wine, Prosecco and cider) remains permitted from the age of 16. In future, the consumption of beverages, including mixed drinks, which contain distilled alcohol and have an alcohol content exceeding 0.5 % by volume (e.g. schnapps, vodka, whisky and premixed drinks), will be prohibited for those under the age of 18. Consuming any kind of alcoholic beverage should only be allowed at the age of 18.
