Swedish Gambling Authority regulations and general advice on responsible gambling

Chapter 14, § 1 of the Gambling Act (2018:000) imposes, inter alia, an obligation on gambling companies to exercise caution and protect players against excessive gambling when there is reason to do so (duty of care). The duty of care involves an obligation for gambling companies to follow a player’s gambling patterns and apply measures under certain conditions, e.g. increased playing frequency or repeated increases in self-imposed limits. The duty of care also involves a requirement for gambling companies to analyse and assess their players’ gambling behaviour with regard to the risk of social harm. In the regulations, it is made clearer what should be included in training under Chapter 14, § 14 of the Gambling Act, protection considerations in connection with online gambling under Chapters 5–8 of the Gambling Act, as well as requirements as to what information a gambling company with a licence under Chapters 5–8 of the Gambling Act must send to the gambling authority so that said authority can monitor the gambling company’s work regarding responsible gambling issues.
