The draft aims to:

1. ensure traffic safety and the provision of safe infrastructure

for use by vehicles, drivers and passengers;

2. protect the environment and ensure the sustainable use of natural resources;

3. draw up new national standards and requirements with regard to determining size and performance during road planning and design in accordance with the European requirements for road infrastructure safety, including the applicable European technical specifications for the construction products used to construct roads;

The draft Regulation on road design:

1. sets out the basic principles to be followed during road design and construction;

2. introduces provisions on the improvement of traffic safety by establishing uniform conditions for traffic and suitable size specifications for:

2.1. roads

2.2. Road surfaces

2.3. earthworks

21.4. intersections and road junctions

2.5. interconnected design elements

3. sets out the conditions for:

3.1. the convenient and safe positioning of road intersections and junctions, emergency sites, roadside sites, etc.

3.2. the rapid removal of surface waters from roadways, etc.

4. sets out the scope and requirements for conducting preliminary studies and preparing investment projects for roads and road sites;

brings the standards and rules for road design into line with the applicable legal requirements under the special regulations on road design and construction;
