The main content of the bill consists of rules regulating all the main aspects regarding medicines in Iceland. The bill updates/replaces the Icelandic Medicinal Products Act no. 93/1994.

Among the changes made is the creation of a Medicines Therapuetic Committe (art. 43) and the granting of prescription rights to midwifes and nurses in certain cases.
