ELOT TS 1501-12-02-01-01 Tunnel excavation with conventional means

The operations provided for in this Specification concern the provision of the manpower, materials, equipment, installations, as well as the execution of all operations related to the excavation (drilling) of a tunnel using excavation machinery (i.e. multi-directional hoes or underground loaders) or hydraulic percussion hammers or perforation - blasting or a combination thereof along with a mechanical cutting method (i.e. a rotating mill) at any point of its cross-section (arch, flanks, foundations), in straight and/or curved sections (in a horizontal and/or vertical alignment), according to the approved Study and the instructions of the Responsible Authority. The tunnels referred to in this Specification are intended for all uses.

A full drilling operation includes the removal of stones and/or rocks from the excavation surface and the loading and transport of the excavation products away from the tunnel openings (as required by the Contracting Authority); these products are intended either to be used directly for the construction or to be stored in approved places in order to be utilised in the future, or to be discarded in approved areas.

The construction operations for the direct support or reinforcement works are covered by other Specifications, but the scope of this Specification also includes all indirect consequences (i.e. delays in the progress of the necessary support works) or requirements (i.e. pumping works) for the skilful and safe completion of the excavation. This excavation category does not include excavations executed solely by rock cutting machinery (full-face or point cutting) that is covered by another Specification.
