Brakes on motorhomes that weigh between 3 500 kg and 7 500 kg approved for Tempo 100 driving (driving up to 100 km per hour on motorways and up to 80 km per hour on other roads).

Order on the conditions for Tempo 100 driving with motorhomes

In conjunction with Tempo 100 approval for motorhomes that weigh between 3 500 kg and 7 500 kg, in addition to the requirements that follow from EU or UNECE regulations, the brakes are required to comply with the provisions on brakes for M2 passenger cars in Annex 1, point 5.01.022 of the Order on detailed regulations for the fitting-out and equipping of vehicles.

This means that the brakes on a motorhome shall meet the following requirements:

- they shall be equipped with category 1 ABS;

- they may be equipped with rear brakes;

- when equipped with air brakes and rear axle air suspension, they shall be equipped with AEBS that meets approval level 1 of Annex II to Regulation (EU) No 347/2012. The requirement does not apply to passenger cars that:

a) have more than three axles;

b) are approved for standing passengers (see classes A, I, and II of ECE Regulation 107 on buses);

c) are off-road, or

d) are special purpose vehicles (see point 5 of Part A of Annex II to Directive 2007/46/EC).

This requirement is stricter compared with Directive 2007/46/EC, under which brake requirements depend, in principle, on the vehicle type, e.g. base vehicle/incomplete vehicle, whose chassis is used for the motorhome.
