This Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania proposes obligating merchants to collect returned reusable packaging and disposable packaging waste, and refund deposits in all town and village shops with a retail area in excess of 50 m2. In all other settlements, the Resolution proposes obligating merchants to collect returned reusable packaging and refund deposits in all shops with a total area in excess of 90 m2, as well as to collect disposable packaging waste and refund deposits in all shops with a retail area in excess of 300 m2.

Resolution of the Government of the Republic of Lithuania on Draft Law No XIIIP-549 amending Article 8 of Law of the Republic of Lithuania No IX-517 on the Management of Packaging and Packaging Waste

The Resolution proposes that Article 1 of draft Law No XIIIP-549 amending Article 8 of Law of the Republic of Lithuania No IX-517 on the Management of Packaging and Packaging Waste lay down paragraphs (1) and (2) of the Law of the Republic of Lithuania on the Management of Packaging and Packaging Waste as follows:

1. Reusable packaging merchants must collect reusable packaging which is subject to a deposit and must return the deposit. This obligation shall not apply to packaging merchants who trade from village and town shops with a retail area not exceeding 50 m2 or from other shops with a retail area not exceeding 90 m2, as well as at markets, kiosks, petrol stations and mass catering establishments. Reusable packaging merchants subject to the exemptions provided for by this paragraph may choose to participate in the reusable packaging deposit system.

2. Disposable packaging merchants must accept disposable packaging waste which is made subject to a deposit by Article 11(2) of this Law and must return the deposit. This obligation shall not apply to packaging merchants who trade from village and town shops with a retail area not exceeding 50 m2 or from other shops with a retail area not exceeding 300 m2, as well as at markets, kiosks, petrol stations and mass catering establishments. Disposable packaging merchants who are subject to the exemptions provided for by this paragraph may choose to participate in the disposable packaging deposit system.
