The Regulations on accident prevention in maritime shipping, which are applicable to employers and insured persons in maritime shipping companies (including the fishing industry), relate to maritime vessels (including fishing vessels).

Regulations on accident prevention in maritime shipping (DGUV Regulation 84 – German Statutory Accident Insurance Association Regulation 84)

In view of the specific working conditions in maritime shipping, the Regulations on accident prevention in maritime shipping contain the compulsory minimum standards to ensure safety and health protection for insured employees during the operation of maritime vessels (including fishing vessels). The content largely matches that in the regulations on the prevention of maritime accidents, which were notified under No 1995/281/D and No 2002/224/D. The only new technical specification not previously notified is found in § 22 of the new Regulations on accident prevention in maritime shipping, namely the requirement for the minimum railing height around loading hatches and equipment hatches to be 1 m instead of the current 0.9 m.
