The draft Regulation defines the veterinary requirements and the veterinary control and monitoring procedures for trading in products of animal origin with the Member States of the European Union.

Amendments to Cabinet Regulation No 142 of 18 March 2004 laying down rules on veterinary requirements and control and monitoring procedures for trading in products of animal origin with the Member States of the European Union

The draft Regulation defines certain hunting districts in Lithuania's and Estonia's border area from which game may be transported to Latvia. The draft Regulation stipulates that, during the transport of hunted animals from these hunting districts to a Latvian game-handling establishment, it may not be necessary to attach a veterinary certificate issued by an official veterinarian, but instead to attach a declaration of a specified trained person as defined by Regulation (EC) No 853/2004 of the European Parliament and of the Council.

The draft Regulation supplements the list of notifiable infectious animal diseases of which the Food and Veterinary Service must inform other Member States and the European Commission.
