The Swedish Board of Agriculture's regulations and general advice (SJVFS 2010:15) on livestock farming within agriculture, etc. are repealed and replaced by six species-specific statutes. These six new statutes consist of one for cattle, one for pigs, one for sheep, one for goats, one for poultry and one for rabbits.

This notification concerns the reprint of the regulations for pigs (SJVFS 2017:XX), to which certain editorial amendments, as well as some substantive ones, are made. This relates to amending the regulations on: freedom of movement (Chapter 2, § 11), piglet weaning (Chapter 3, § 2), sheds for fattening pigs (Chapter 5, § 2) and the design of fencing (Chapter 6, § 1).

Swedish Board of Agriculture regulations and general advice (SJVFS 2017:XX) on pig farming within agriculture, etc.

Chapter 2, § 12. The paragraph on freedom of movement concerning the tying together of body parts, etc. is amended so that it applies irrespective of where the animal is kept and not only during grazing, as is currently the case. However, tying body parts together is permitted for treatment purposes if this is necessary to prevent injury and suffering.

Chapter 3, § 2. The paragraph is amended so that, under certain conditions, it is permitted to wean piglets younger than 28 days (but not younger than 21 days).

Chapter 5, § 2. The paragraph is amended to regulate how many fattening pigs may be kept in a shed section instead of how many fattening pig places a shed section may have, and to allow up to 600 fattening pigs to be kept in the same shed section when the pigs are taken from 2–3 different herds.

Chapter 6, § 1. The paragraph is amended so that the use of barbed wire in fencing is banned.
