Regulation of the Minister for the Environment laying down requirements for manufacturing products made from sewage sludge

The draft regulation lays down requirements for the production and use of sewage sludge as a product. The requirements are stricter than those stipulated in the regulation on its use as waste. However, they repeat the rules established for the applications of sewage sludge and the restrictions on its use. This approach is justified by the need to increase the confidence of users of products made from sewage sludge, and alleviate the potential risks associated with using products made therefrom.

Upon the draft regulation's entry into force, holders of sewage sludge will have the opportunity, though not the obligation, to place a product on the market. If these requirements will not or cannot be met (due to the quality of the product made from sewage sludge or to shortcomings in a company's self-regulatory system, etc.), sewage sludge may still be used as waste, provided that waste usage requirements are taken into account.
