Preliminary draft Act on electronic identification
The aim of the preliminary draft act is to lay down provisions which should allow Regulation (EU) No 910/2014 of the European Parliament and of the Council of 23 July 2014 on electronic identification and trust services for electronic transactions in the internal market and repealing Directive 1999/93/EC to be implemented with regard to Chapter II ‘Electronic identification’. This part of the preliminary draft concerns the European cross-border context.
The preliminary draft act also aims to create a legal framework for electronic identification for e-government applications. In particular, this preliminary draft provides a statutory basis for the Belgian Federal Authentication Service and the possibility to recognise electronic identification services with the aim of gaining access to Belgian government applications. This part of the preliminary draft concerns the Belgian context.
